I’m starting a new thing today – posts that won’t be sports-related (although this one is. Dammit, Michael – be consistent!). I wanted to do this for a long time, and I even warned about it in the “About Me” section. For example, I do want to write sometimes about some of my favorite songs. So, the blog is still dedicated to sports statistics, but yeah, sometimes I will post some other things.
Now, today’s song is not unrelated to sports, even if it’s only in my twisted mind.
Eminem is one of my favorite artists of all-time, and his body of work, together with his consistency and longetivity make him, in my opinion, the greatest rapper evar. And I like to compare him to Messi – two great artists, each in his own domain, who got us so used to their very high level of performance that people began to say that they “lost a step” and that they are “not what they used to be”.
And then they get back.
So if Rap God is the equivalent to Messi’s amazing goal vs. Bayern Munich in this year’s Champions League semi-final, then Eminem’s verse in the next song is the equivalent of Messi’s wonder goal vs. Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final.
And yes, I am aware that if you push the comparison somewhat further – it shatters. Fuck that. Enjoy the song.
P.S. The song is great on its own behalf, especially Big Sean’s verse.
