All-Around NBA Seasons

May 11th, 2009 was at first just another regular Monday. However, it proved to be a pivotal date for me, because it was then that I got curious and wanted to know how common was the feat of averaging 6+ or 7+ or 8+ in points, rebounds and assists for a whole NBA season. You see,  LeBron just finished an “All 7’s” season and his fifth consecutive “All 6’s” season, and I was sure that this is not a common sight. Sure, everyone knows that Oscar Robertson is the only player to average a triple double for a season, and Jason Kidd had an “All 8’s” season just two years ago, but I wanted to dig deeper and find every player who had such a great all-around statistical season. I reached a conclusion this other day, when I saw Kim Collins compete in one of this year’s Diamond League events. Let’s return for a while to posts about the NBA, before we get the Swimming World Championships in Kazan next week. Yes, I know it’s the Aquatics World Championships, thank you very much. However, I don’t really care about water polo and synchronized swimming. Swimming is life. Anyway, when the time comes I hope to post daily posts summarizing everything that happens in Kazan (and stays in Kazan?), like I did with the European Athletics Championships last year. Some Playoff Stats

Ok, so we’re actually nearing the end of this year’s playoffs. Cleveland and Golden State qualified to the finals, and will battle for the title. It’s not really surprising, but still – good job Cavs and Warriors! I’m really torn between those two teams, but I think that the Warriors are a real “Destiny Team” this season. They are destined to win, all the stars are aligning themselves for them. They are playing the best and the most eye-pleasing basketball. They finished with a truly historic record of 67-15. They have the MVP, the most delighting player in the league – Steph Curry. And so far they looked incredible in the playoffs. Let’s say that if you’re saying that they don’t win it’s like some saying that Blanka Vlasic won’t win the 2008 Olympic title. Oh, wait…

Yes, it’s been too long since my last post. The thing is that I’ve been busy with a talk I had to give at the seminar for PhD students at TAU, and since I have a tendency to really put myself into every work I do at the univesity it really took a lot of me and of my resources. The talk was about my research and it was the first time I presented it (I really hate doing it and this is why I always go to conferences as a listener only – I never presented a poster or gave a talk). Milwaukee Bucks And A Few Thoughts About The Playoffs So Far

Well, just as I promised to The Greek Freak- I did watch a Bucks game the other night, game 3 of their series with the Bulls. I think it was the first time ever that I watched a full NBA game with the Bucks in it. Another NBA season has passed, and just like my mentor (yeah right, I wish) Bill Simmons keeps his tradition of publishing his annual Trade Value column (check this out – a collection of ALL his previous trade value columns!), I will continue the tradition of publicizing the statistical achievements that went under the radar this year, the shy ones, the ones who keep over-analyzing conversations and social interactions. I don’t know for sure which column is more popular, but we’ll give Mr. Simmons the benefit of the doubt.

First of all – kudos for Stephen Curry for breaking his own record for most three-pointers made in a season! AND he still has 3 more games to improve it further. He currently has 276, and I reckon he might try to reach 300. It’s not unthinkable – he just had a game with 8 treys, and 300 is such a nice round number. I think he just might make it.
