With Euro 2016 on a break, it’s time to go back to something I was planning to post for about a month now. Let’s return to the world of NBA for a little while. Quick, to the Ballmobile!

Back in 2013, when the All-NBA Teams for the 2012-13 season were announced, Sekou Smith of the awesome NBA.com Hangtime blog (very recommended!) wrote a post in which he predicted how the 2015-16 All-NBA Teams will look like.

Statistical Achievements That Went (Largely) Unnoticed In The 2015/16 NBA Season

The end of a yet another NBA season means a couple of things – the major statistical summaries are getting published in every possible sports-website, while some other statistical achievements are getting forgotten and wait to be mentioned in places such as this blog. This is the 4th year in a row in which I give a loud shout-out to those forgotten achievements, the shy ones, the ones who for days make plans to talk to this girl at this party and then end up sitting across from her throughout the whole evening and not mustering enough courage to actually come and talk to her, even though she’s sitting there all alone by herself and probably could use somebody to talk to. NBA All-Star 2016 – Part I

Another All-Star weekend behind us. It was a mix of good and bad, but not necessarily the good and the bad I was expecting. It was also Kobe‘s last All-Star weekend, which was kinda sad, but not as sad as Michael‘s last All-Star in 2003. At least this is how I felt. BTW, do you remember that back then in 2003 Kobe was the one who denied us the ultimate Hollywood ending to the game, with Michael’s game-winner-which-turned-out-to-be-not-a-game-winner because Kobe sank those free throws that forced a second overtime? All-Around NBA Seasons

May 11th, 2009 was at first just another regular Monday. However, it proved to be a pivotal date for me, because it was then that I got curious and wanted to know how common was the feat of averaging 6+ or 7+ or 8+ in points, rebounds and assists for a whole NBA season. You see,  LeBron just finished an “All 7’s” season and his fifth consecutive “All 6’s” season, and I was sure that this is not a common sight. Sure, everyone knows that Oscar Robertson is the only player to average a triple double for a season, and Jason Kidd had an “All 8’s” season just two years ago, but I wanted to dig deeper and find every player who had such a great all-around statistical season. Another NBA season has passed, and just like my mentor (yeah right, I wish) Bill Simmons keeps his tradition of publishing his annual Trade Value column (check this out – a collection of ALL his previous trade value columns!), I will continue the tradition of publicizing the statistical achievements that went under the radar this year, the shy ones, the ones who keep over-analyzing conversations and social interactions. I don’t know for sure which column is more popular, but we’ll give Mr. Simmons the benefit of the doubt.

NBA All Star 2015 – Part I

The All-Star weekend is behind us. It’s weird, I waited a year for this event, and now that it’s over I cannot feel not-disappointed. What is felt cannot be unfelt! Many of the events were really disappointing, although definitely not all of them. In the first part of my all-star summary, I will look back at what we had. In the second part I want to look at how I fared with my reviews and predictions of the leaders in the various statistical categories. I don’t want to mix the stats stuff with the non-stats stuff. Damn, saying that last sentence aloud is really difficult, at least for me it was. All those s’s… try it yourself!

Rookies and Sophomores Game

Or, as they like to call it officially: “Rising Stars Challenge”. Jesus, doesn’t “rookies and sophomores” sounds more intuitive? Anyway, I don’t watch this event every year on a regular basis, just from time to time, when there are some interesting rookies that I look forward to watch in action. I believe the first time I watched this game was in 2004, when LeBron, Carmelo and Wade lost to Amar’e Stoudemire. Yes, it was a 3-on-1 game. Continue reading →

Westbrook’s Massive Game

Whoa, OKC just beat Golden State 127-115!

But even bigger than the win was Russell Westbrook‘s epic performance in tonight’s game. And that says something, because Durant scored 36 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 4 assists, and Russ’s performance still eclipsed his.

Westbrook finished with a triple double of 17 points, 15 rebounds and 17 assists (and 4 steals). Such an achievement is a real rarity. Using the BBR’s Player Game Finder feature I found out that only 6 such instances, of getting at least 15 in all three categories, occured in the last 30 years. And Westbrook joins Jason Kidd and Rajon Rondo as the only players to achieve that since 2000. Continue reading →
